Welcome to Written Proof
So why would you need to use anyone to help with your writing?
Nobody wants to think that their writing skills need improving, and even fewer people are prepared to spend the time and energy to improve them. Yet, the importance of the written word, especially for businesses, is such that the words that you write are your best and often only chance to create an impression on potential customers.
However, before you will ever have the opportunity to make an impression on those customers with your excellent customer service or expertise… many of your prospects will choose whether or not to do business with you, by the quality of your written communications.
Even those documents that are not intended for general consumption such as Business Plans, Reports and other internal communications within companies are also subject to errors. Just because it’s not in the public domain, it doesn’t mean that it’s not important that it is right.
Furthermore, if you are an individual writing a book or magazine article, your manuscript will no doubt be sent to a submissions editor or literary agent. It’s not difficult to imagine what’s going to happen if they are presented, amongst the hundreds that they receive, with your manuscript that has basic errors in the text!
We can all benefit from a little help now and then, even if it is just reassurance that the words that we have written make sense to the reader. So, surely it makes sense to get that best selling book, thesis/dissertation, marketing copy, business documentation, website copy, article or manual checked out before it goes to print… because when that happens… it’s too late!
My ‘proofreading’ service combines proofreading and editing into one convenient package, making Written Proof the ‘one stop shop’ for document checking and repair. I can also help with any writing projects from a simple press release to a full technical manual.

Writing Tips
‣Plan the route of your writing. Make a list of what it is you want to say and put it in order. Then write the text.
‣Keep it simple; write to the lowest level of your target audience.
‣Avoid using ‘Frankenquotes’ – made up words and quotations that bear no resemblance to normal speech.
‣Don’t inflate words; use the normal English term for an object.
‣Do NOT rely on your computer Spell Checker.
‣Once written, look at the tone of your writing, your attitude toward your subject and your readers is as important as the content of your communication.
‣Think about your message and the possible consequences of what you have written.
‣Edit the document once you’ve written it, not as you go along. Nothing stifles creativity more than a stop-start approach to writing.
